If you haven’t already caught on, beads are in this summer. But Kelis just showed us you don’t have to rock a Fulani style of braid to get in on the season’s latest and greatest hair trend. In fact, the singer took her look the Egyptian route with a head full of Cleopatra-style twists adorned with beautiful gold beads.
Kelis appears to have revived Senagalese twists with this look, but with a twist of their own. A few carefully placed strands of blonde hair in addition to bright gold beads placed along the length of the twists and stacked on her blunt bangs definitely puts us in the mindset of Egyptian royalty. And that gorgeous winged eyeliner definitely seals the deal.
The looks was created for Kelis’s appearance on the BBC’s vocal challenge show Pitch Battle and we have a feeling she was inspired by this throwback photoshoot with Andre 3000 for The Face magazine in 2004.
Kelis has always been a hair trendsetter and we have to say we love her look today as much as we did when she first stepped on the scene with those funky colored curls. I’m not sure how practical this beaded twist look is, but it’s definitely worth a try before Summer ends. What do you think?
